Ear and skin problems are common for pets living in the tropics, and can cause significant discomfort if left untreated. Conditions like ear infections, allergies, hot spots and skin infections may result from environmental factors, parasites and/or underlying health issues. The symptoms are all very obvious and includes excessive scratching, redness, hair loss and/or unusual odors. If your pet is presenting with any of these, then it’s time to make an appointment and come in and see one of our Cairns vets.
At our Cairns veterinary clinics, we’re very experienced at diagnosing and treating a wide range of ear and skin conditions. The appointment will commence with a thorough physical examination, and sometimes this is sufficient to diagnose the problem and prepare a treatment plan. Sometimes it is not, and in those cases we may take skin scrapings, ear swabs and conduct some allergy testing to identify the underlying cause. Most ear and skin problems are easily treated with medications, shampoos and/or dietary changes, and respond quickly to the treatment.
Whether your pet is dealing with a persistent itch or recurring infections, our team is here to provide compassionate care and expert advice to restore your pet’s health and happiness.
